Mission:FoodPossible

Mission:FoodPossible (M:FP) is an initiative spearheaded by The League of International Chefs Association to combat global hunger and promote food security as well as minimize food waste and loss. M:FP includes a 2-day training and a culminating community event to provide wholesome, nutritious meals to the food insecure and hungry. At the community event, participants also learn how to use simple ingredients to prepare nutritious meals and reduce spending. TLICA’s work is aligned to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal #2 to “end hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture” by 2030.

A September 2017 report from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) revealed that hunger is on the rise in the Caribbean for the first time in two decades. Since the inaugural M:FP, TLICA has been contacted by a primary school in Jamaica because one-third of the entire student population cannot afford lunch and, therefore, do not eat throughout the day. In one instance, each week, a mother of three is forced to select only two of her children to send to school because she cannot afford to pay for all three of her children to eat—no child should ever be deprived of an education. TLICA was created to address the staggering number of people who suffer from hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition and is putting its efforts into addressing the issue.
